BERNARD B. MEINEKE 1862 - 1937

Happy 160th birthday to my maternal 2nd great-grandfather, Bernard B. Meineke. 

There are so many different spellings that I’ve found for his name. I’m going with Bernard since that is how I found it spelled the most. Other spellings are Bernhart, Banhart, Barrhart, Banhardt, Barnhard, Bernhard and Banshard. I’ve also seen Meineke spelled as Minacor, Meinecke, Mineki, Manecke, Meinecke and Mineke. I’m really not sure how much of what I’ve found is correct due to all the different spellings.


27 DEC 1862 - Born in Harris County, TX to Albert Meineke, age 44 and Mary Nolte Meineke, who was 39. 


I’m unsure about his siblings as several census records are missing. I am going with these since they lived near him on the 1900 census. Theado, Charles and Henry.


According to the 1900 census, his mother said she was the mother of eleven children and that three were living so perhaps the others I found are his siblings but I’m not going to include them until I have more proof. 


15 SEP 1886 - Married Minna Hartman in Houston, Harris, TX when she was 16 and he was 23. The marriage has both of their names misspelled so I’m not a 100% sure this is their certificate.



17 NOV 1887 - Birth of daughter, Johanna “Nellie” Marie [TX]. 


24 SEP 1889 - Birth of son, Henry Emanuel [Houston, Harris, TX].


20 OCT 1891 - Birth of daughter, Dorothy “Dora” C. [Houston, Harris, TX].


17 JAN 1894 - Birth of daughter, Anna Rose [Houston, Harris, TX]. This is my great-grandmother.


12 OCT 1896 - Birth of son, Frederick William [Houston, Harris, TX].


10 JAN 1900 - Birth of son, Theodore “Theo” Bernhart [TX].


1900 - Residence - Lived in Justice Precinct 2, Harris, TX. 



31 AUG 1905 - Death of mother, Mary, at the age of 82 [Houston, Harris, TX].


3 JAN 1906 - Birth of daughter, Margaret “Maggie” Willie [Houston, Harris, TX].


1910 - Residence - Lived in Justice Precinct 1, Harris, TX. 



1911 - Lived in Houston, Harris, TX. Their farm was near Westheimer Rd. If you are familiar with that road it is hard to believe that there was farmland there in the past.



5 APR 1919 - Wife, Minna, passed away from apoplexy in Houston Harris, TX at the age of 49. They had been married 32 years.


1920 - Residence - Can’t locate them on it.


19 JAN 1928 - Death of brother, Henry [Houston, Harris, TX]. 


1930 - Residence - Houston, Harris, TX.



23 MAR 1932 - Death of brother, Charles [Houston, Harris, TX].


7 NOV 1936 - Death of brother, Theado [Houston, Harris, TX].


8 AUG 1937 - Passed away at the age of 74 [Houston, Harris, TX].

Woodville Woodville is where the Hicks family held a reunion for many years. Located about an hour from Lufkin, it is located deep in the Piney Woods of East Texas at the crossroads of three U.S. highways: U.S. Highway 69, U.S. Highway 190, and U.S. 287. SUSAN TAYLOR DEFRIESE WATT 1821 - 1890

On January 8th, my paternal 3rd great-grandmother, Susan Taylor DeFriese Watt(s) Owens , would have been 202 years old. She has been a little difficult to research as her maiden name is spelled several different ways like Dumfriese, Defrice and DeFrees. Also there is some discrepancy on whether her first husband’s last name was Watt or Watts. I recently received information from Roberta Mahr Drews , who is my 1st cousin 1x removed. Her mother, Ruth Owens Mahr , my grandaunt, received some of this information and some of it came from Carl Owens , who was my granduncle. He had written to some relatives and got some information. October 30, 2022 Happy 108th birthday to my paternal grandmother, Kathryne Viola Smith Owens . My middle name is Kathryne in her honor. It is a interesting spelling.
