Today my paternal grandfather, Wayne Denton Owens, would have been 111.

2 OCT 1911 - Born in Hunt County, TX. Parents were Andrew Crawford Owens who was 24 and Hettie Lou Goodwin Owens was 23. He was the third of seven children. He had two older brothers, Rayford Morris and Cecil Robert.

Moved to the Texas panhandle. I asked some of the family about why they moved to the panhandle and then to MO. Here is what Roberta Drews knows about why they moved.

“What I heard was that they moved from the Scatterbranch community near Commerce, TX, to west Texas because land was more available. Cecil was the only son who stayed behind and he ended up with a farm that had been in the Owens family. The rest moved out to west Texas with some livestock, horses and wagon carrying their belongings.

They stopped in Abernathy because one of A.C.’s brothers had a store (jewelry?) where Carl was born.”
