Happy 169th birthday to my paternal great-great grandfather, John Dawson Smith, Jr.


18 SEP 1853 - Born in Yell County, AR. Parents were John Dawson JD Smith Sr., who was 35 and Mary Jane Gill Smith, who was 26. He was the seventh of eleven children according to census records. Older siblings were William Frank, Martha Etta, Mary Ann, Hiram C., Andrew T., George Andrew Jackson and James E. 


I think that his father was married before Mary Jane and that William and Martha were her children. I am unable to locate any info on her.

18 OCT 1862 - Birth of sister, Tennessee "Tenna" Ann [Yell County, AR].

1869 - Death of mother, Mary Jane Gill Smith, at the age of 42 [AR].

11 NOV 1869 - Father married Elizabeth Shearer [Van Buren, AR].

29 JUL 1880 - Married Martha Roena Josephine White  in Van Buren, AR when she was 16 and he was 26.

15 DEC 1905 - Birth and death of infant son, Bogata Cemetery [Bogata, Red River County, TX].

11 DEC 1906 - Death of wife, Martha Roena Josephine, [Midway, Red River, TX] at the age of 42. They had been married 26 years.

1910 - Residence - Justice Precinct 3, Red River, TX.


17 JUL 1915 - Death of daughter, Martha Etter [Red River County, TX].

30 APR 1920 - Death of daughter, Cora D. [Bogata, Red River, TX].
