ROBERT SMITH GOODWIN 1847 - 1928

Today my 2nd great-grandfather, Robert Smith Goodwin, would have been 175 years old.

10 AUG 1847 - Born in Marion County, AL, to Robert Goodwin, age 42 and Sarah Ramsey Goodwin, age 21. He was the fourth of six children. His older siblings were Austin, George A. and Mary E.

1853 - Birth of sister, Lucinda Jane [Frankfort, AL].

1860 - Residence - Western Division, Frankfort, Franklin, AL.

06 JUN 1870 - Married Sarah Caroline Denton in Colbert, AL when he was 22 and she was 15.

1870 - Residence - Township 5 Range 13, Frankfort, Colbert, AL.

14 AUG 1871 - Death of father, Robert, at the age of 66 [Colbert, AL].

17 FEB 1872 - Birth of son, William Henry [AL].

26 JAN 1874 - Birth of daughter, Emerline Emma [AL].

12 JAN 1876 - Birth of son, George Walter [Colbert County, AL].

10 JAN 1878 - Birth of daughter, Nancy Ann [Colbert County, AL].

12 FEB 1880 - Birth of son, John Leander [Colbert County, AL].

31 MAR 1890 - Birth of son, Anderson Robert [Tuscumbia, Colbert County, AL].

2 OCT 1892 - Birth of daughter, Sallie Lola [AL].

26 FEB 1895 - Birth of son, Charlie Lewis [Hunt County, TX].

22 JUN 1897 - Birth of daughter, Bertha Thelma [Hunt County, TX].

20 APR 1900 - Death of brother, George A. [AL].

1900 - Residence - Justice Precinct 6, Hunt County, TX.

1910 - Residence - Justice Precinct 6, Hunt County, TX.

18 May 1910 - Death of wife, Sarah Caroline, in [Wolfe City, Hunt County, TX] at the age of 55. They had been married 39 years.

1920 - Residence - Justice Precinct 6, Hunt County, TX.

7 AUG 1928 - Passed away at the age of 80 [Hunt, TX].

Burial - Wesley Chapel Cemetery, [South Sulphur, Hunt County, TX].

Robert Smith Goodwin was born August 10, 1847 in Alabama, and he died August 7, 1928, being 80 years, 11 months and 27 days of age. He had been in declining health for the past three years and he had gone to many different points and health resorts in search of his much wanted health but with no permanent results. He was an honest, hard working man and his policy was to be fair and square towards everybody and he owed no one. He came to Texas in 1893 and lived in the Aberfoyle community for about six years then moved to the Scatterbranch community where he has lived ever since. He married on Jan. 5, 1870 to Miss Sarah C. Denton, who preceded him in death about 18 years ago. To this union were born thirteen children as follows; W. H Goodwin of Aberfoyle, Mrs. H.E. Malone, Mrs. JR. Mashburn, J.L. Goodwin and , J.R. Goodwin, Mrs. E.M. McWhorter all of the Scatterbranch community. G.W. Goodwin of Portales, New Mexico and Mrs. C.L. Ford and Mrs. C.O. Surratt of Planiview, Mrs. W.S. McLain of Snyder, Oklahoma, A.R. Goodwin and C.L. Goodwin of Lorenzo, Texas and Mrs. A.C. Owens of Tulia, Texas. All of the children except G.W. Goodwin of Portales, New Mexico was present for the funeral. The family has lost their best earthly friend and there is a vacant chair which can not be filled as did "Dear Old Dad." The community has lost one of its best citizens, but not for long, as all hope to meet him in the great beyond.
